Thanks to Carol Pickett for supplying the following picture, which she found amongst her late aunt, Joan Hawkins, possessions. Joan Hawkins was a landgirl based in Peterborough during World War 2 and Carol suspects that the photos are from approximately 1946 and also that Joan knew one of the contestants. The back of this photo reads;
"2 Peterborough girls successful in area final of 'Holiday Princess' Contest.
Miss Ruby Ayes, 35 Tower St, Peterborough won the first prize (£50) at the area final of the Holiday Princess Contest arranged by the Gaumont British Corporation and Butlins Holiday Camp at the Regent Cinema, Ipswich. She is shown on the 4th from the left.
The 2nd prize went to Miss Pat Wood of Ipswich (3rd from left). The 3rd prize was won by Miss Marcia Knight (5th from left) of 34 Harris St, Peterborough.
Group shows competitors with Mr Shaun Noble, the actor, who distributed the prizes.
