In July 1968 I and my mate Joey went to Butlins in Filey, for a boys week away. On the third night we were there, we walked into one of the bars and sat next to a family, Mum, Dad and their 3 Daughters we got talking and discovered they lived in Manchester.
After a short time the parents and youngest daughter left and went back to their chalet, that left the four of us talking and drinking. I escorted the elder of the two girls back to their chalet and arranged to meet the next day.
Well, that meeting went so well, we became an item got married in July 1970 and will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary on 25th July 2010.
Who says holiday romances never work, well we are proud to say, my Butlins holiday that year was the best ever and it is a pity the camp is closed, as we would have liked to re-visit this year.
Butlins Camps like Skegness, Pwllheli and Ayr all featured in our lives after our meeting and marriage, as we took our two sons to them, in fact our eldest son who is 37 years old still goes to the camps (now Haven) with his wife and daughter.
Finally, we have had some very happy times/holidays at Butlins Camps and will re-visit the areas again in the future.
Thank you Butlins.
Kind Regards,
Ron Truesdale
