Filey, early 70s, I remember the sheer size of the place sprawling over several acres. Walt Harper was in charge of the maintenance dept. I worked for him for three or was it four seasons? Red, Blue, Green, Yellow White Camps and Flatlets, as well as Kent, York and Staff dining rooms, all Main Buildings, all other buildings, Bars, Restaurants, etc!
Some of my recollections are of Barrow Boys chasing up and down camp with suitcases stacked high, probably hoping for Green Camp and not Flatlets, and a good tip! Queues for everything, which with several thousand people on site was not surprising. Wrestling Bouts, just like on the telly, same wrestlers, every week. Donkey Derbys, Cabarets Bob Monkhouse and AckerBilk are names that spring to mind, Sunday at the Gaiety Theatre with Colin Compton of the Comedians TV show cracking the gags and running the show!
Sea Frets, foggy on white camp and flatlets, sunny on the rest of camp! Pay parades, students all nationalities, laundry days on wed/sat, piles of linen everywhere. Floods, it wasnt always sunny.
But, most of all I remember the people.
