In 1956 I whent to Butlins Camp, Filey, for a week with the boys. On the second night we were there, we were in the dance hall when the band leader asked all the boys to form a circle. Then the girls had to form a circle on the outside. When the music started we had to rotate in opposite directions. When the music stopped the boys had to go down on one knee and the nearest girl had to sit on his knee and sing I'll be your sweetheart. In 1959 I married that girl.
It only seemed right that we had our honeymoon at the Metropole Hotel in Blackpool. During the years bringing up our family we had holidays at quite a few of the camps. After the children had left we re visited the Metropole and also the Ocean Hotel near Brighton. We are now in our 50th year of marriage (April) and feel we should re visit Butlins and intend trying the new hotel in Bognor Regis sometime in November 2009.
Butlins has played a big part in our lives and with a bit of luck we might well celebrate our 60th there as well.
We had some very happy times at Butlins and it has played a very big part in how our lives have turned out.
Kind Regards.
