That they are yet again changing the design of the Redcoat uniform, they are getting design students to submit different designs and then will choose the best.
Seems Stella McCartney wasn't interested!

I read that its asking for News of the World readers to submit ideas in not more than 25 words then the best will be sent to the students to be made up.
I HATE TO THINK !!!!

Here's my design
Girls - A white knee length sunray pleated skirt, red blazer with BHC logo on the breast pocket, white blouse, white shoes, white lace handkerchief and an oversized clear plastic mac with red collar.
Boys - White flannel trousers, white shirt, blue and gold tie, black bow tie for after 6pm, white shoes and an oversized clear plastic mac with red collar.
Revolutionary eh!

Company Background
Butlins was introduced in 1936 and has become one of the UK?s most popular holiday resorts. Butlins carries a strong national heritage and is home to the most recognizable uniformed entertainers in the world - the Butlins Redcoats.
The Redcoats have played a key role in the image of the Butlins holiday since day one. Their role has developed over the years and today Redcoats meet and greet guests, entertain children at various kid?s clubs, appear in stage shows and performances and assist with media projects. They are about to take their skills nationwide with ?Reds on the Road?, a specially trained troupe who will entertain the public at a variety of events and even have their own ITV documentary series, simply titled ?Redcoats?.
Project Background
The famous Butlins uniforms were last updated in 1998 by fashion designer Jeff Banks. We feel that in 2004 the Redcoats should have a new image. The previous uniforms have become dated and are no longer practical for the Redcoats new, more active role. We need uniforms, both formal and casual, that are stylish, modern, comfortable, durable, and that make the Redcoats look and feel good ? uniforms that they are proud to wear. The age range of the Redcoats is 18 ? 25 years
Design Brief
Students can opt to design either the formal or informal outfit but not both.
- To design a FORMAL outfit for both male and female Redcoats comprising:
Female Jacket
2nd main item of female outfit (could be trousers, skirt or dress)
Female T-Shirt (if trousers or skirt chosen as 2nd part of outfit)
Male Jacket
Male Trousers
Male T-Shirt
The basic colour of the jacket must be red to maintain the link with the entertainers? famous Redcoat name and it should have an inside pocket for carrying basic bits and pieces. However, it can have trimmings etc., in a different colour. The colour of the rest of the outfit is at the designer?s discretion.
- To design an INFORMAL outfit for male and female Redcoats comprising:
Unisex Fleece
Unisex casual trousers
Unisex polo/t-shirt
The basic colour of the fleece must be red to maintain the link with the entertainers, famous Redcoat name. However, it can have trimmings etc., in a different colour. The colour of the rest of the outfit is at the designer?s discretion
- The designs should be:
Stylish and modern but lasting at least 5 years without looking dated
Comfortable as both uniforms may be worn all day and the formal one also in the evening with only a change of top
Durable as the role of the Redcoat is active and the uniform needs to be hardwearing
- Materials:
Once students have informed us of the outfits they have chosen to design, swatches of materials will be provided plus an outlining 2nd brief with images of past uniforms
Entries should comprise drawn work of the designs, including an indication of fabrics to be used plus trimmings and any other relevant preparatory work. Entries should be sent FAO: Simon Ward to the British Fashion Council, 5 Portland Place, London, W1B 1PW
Time Scale
July
- Approved design brief arrives at your college
- Colleges to submit an indication of the number of students entering in the national competition
July - October
- Students to confirm which outfit they will be designing and begin work
By 31st October
- Designs submitted to BFC
7th November
- Judgement Day!
- Top 3 designs in each category are announced
November ? early January 2004
- Top 3 designs in each category are produced by Butlins uniform manufacturer
2nd Week January 2004
- Top 3 designs in each category are modelled on a catwalk
- Winner of each category announced
March 2004
- Winning designs from each category appear at the BCIA Career & Workwear Awards in Central London
April 2004
- The old uniform is taken off-shelf
- New uniforms are worn at Butlins resorts in Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness by all the Redcoats
Prizes
- 1st Formal Outfit = ?5000 + a VIP break, for 2 people, at one of the resorts to see the uniforms being worn
- 1st Casual Outfit = ?5000 + a VIP break, for 2 people, at one of the resorts to see the uniforms being worn
The remaining four finalists will win ?500 each plus a weekend break, for 4 people at one of the resorts
