Gaiety Building - Pig & Whistle Showbar

All photographs and descriptions © Keith Franklin

The Pig and Whistle Showbar is pretty much unchanged from Butlins time. Totally pitch black in here. But all the false wooden beamed house fronts are still present. The (totally stripped) bar hatch and stage can be seen. The original chairs are littered about. However bad ceiling leaking has meant that the raised floor and stairs leading down into the Pig and Whistle from the Rose Garden Restaurant are rotten and dangerous. There is lots of mould and a terrible smell. Live and dead seagulls are everywhere. The gents toilets block at the side of the Showbar is in excellent condition. No damage. Toilet paper is even still on the cubicle walls!
