Gaiety Building - Gaiety Ballroom

Photographs and descriptions © Keith Franklin

Walk up the standard 'posh' Butlins stairs with wooden rails. Floorboards very rotten and dangerous upstairs due to severe roof leaks. Ceiling is in a bad way. The mini-stage and dance floor are recognisable - painted red. White murals can be seen on wall. Large windows have been changed to small round purple windows from inside. Red chairs are littered everywhere. Lots of sea-gulls and cats. In the corner is a wrecked sea-food restaurant - full of cupboards stored from chalets. Outside is an unsafe balcony which overlooks the funpool. There are a few offices to the back of the ballroom, one of which contained a load of chalet coin box spares and tools - as well as a cat!
